International Law Under Pressure: Conflict Settlement and the Law on the Use of Force from the End of the Cold War to Ukraine (Seminar)

By the end of the course the candidates will have developed a keen understanding of the relevance of the prohibition of the use of force for the credibility of the international system. They will understand its historic development, along with the rationale and modalities of the establishment of the United Nations system. They will be familiar with the differing interpretations of the doctrines of self-defence and humanitarian intervention and will be able critically to engage with recent, major instances of the international use of force.
