Conference: “Legal Operations brief: (Mis)Using the law as an instrument of power in order to gain benefits”

On the 75th anniversary of NATO, Porto School of Law will receive Brigadier-General (ret.) JUDr. Pavel Kriz, LL.M., head of Legal Operations team in ACO Office of Legal Affairs.

General Pavel Kriz will give a conference to the master’s and 4th Year undergraduate students on the (mis)uses of law as an instrument of power to gain benefits, having as background the current strategic and challenging situation of the Alliance.

After the conference, at 11:40, a short ceremony on the attribution of the Serge Lazareff Award, to which all academic community is invited, will take place.

After the ceremony, General Pavel will visit the Porto campus of Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

Beginning at 12:05, a side event will take place, to present the e-Lawfas (the legal database of NATO) and answer question of all the students. It will be held by General’s Pavel team.

All the events will take place at Porsche Room.

N.B. The Serge Lazareff prize is given “to those whose work has proved outstanding and helpful for supporting and/or developing the knowledge of the NATO legal position(s) and NATO legal works, in accordance with the different governing treaties and/or in relation with NATO-led operations, and NATO’s activities as an International Organisation”.
