Promotion of effective elimination of corporal punishment against children

It’s an European Project aiming at contributing for the elimination of physical punishment against minors (mainly child abuse). Considering that objective, researchers from several involved countries will carry out a survey on their respective in force national legislation, alongside with available court decisions and doctrine on the subject. They will also conduct training to different entities/agents. The participation of Escola de Direito - Porto da Universidade Católica Portuguesa will focus in the following aspects:

  • Identifying and analysing legislation concerning physical punishment.
  • Conducting a survey on existing case law on the subject.
  • Compiling and analysing existing doctrine on the matter.
  • Creating a workgroup, integrating specialists in child protection to discuss the subject in hand, detecting legal gaps and preparing a report about each session.
  • Organizing two courses directed at judges, public prosecutors, health providers and educators on the application of relevant legislation on this subject.
  • Elaborating an Action Plan and informative notes.

From October 1st, 2016, to September 30th, 2018.
