FINAL PROJECT DOCUMENTS

Overview

The HandsUp Project is a European initiative aimed at contributing to the elimination of corporal punishment of minors, particularly the physical abuse of children.

To achieve this goal, researchers from various participating countries conducted a comparative study through questionnaires on their respective national legislation, judicial decisions, and academic literature relating to this issue.

The project also involved training sessions for professionals and institutions engaged in the protection of children.

The participation of the Porto Faculty of Law, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, focused on the following areas:

  • Identification and analysis of national legislation concerning corporal punishment;
  • Design and application of a questionnaire on existing case law;
  • Compilation and analysis of relevant academic literature;
  • Preparation of a comprehensive report;
  • Creation of a working group composed of experts in child protection to discuss the topic, identify gaps, and produce reports for each session;
  • Organisation of two specialised training courses on the implementation of relevant legislation, aimed at judges, prosecutors, health professionals, and educators;
  • Preparation of an Action Plan.
