The project “CROP – Compliance and Regulatory Oversight Platform” is now underway. It aims to support organisations in managing compliance within an increasingly complex regulatory framework through the development of a digital platform. The initiative seeks to reduce the risk of non-compliance and to assist internal decision-making processes in both private and public entities, thereby ensuring greater legal certainty and organisational efficiency.
Grounded in an interdisciplinary approach combining expertise in law, information technologies, and risk management, the project envisages the integration of emerging technologies, with particular emphasis on Artificial Intelligence and natural language processing solutions. The platform will consist of several modules, each dedicated to a specific regulatory domain, including public procurement, Data Protection, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybersecurity. This modular structure will enable a systematic and flexible approach to legal compliance management, tailored to the specific needs of each organisation.
On behalf of the Faculty of Law, the project is coordinated by Marta Portocarrero, Dean of the School, and involves a research team comprising professors of the Faculty, Nuno Sousa e Silva, Pedro Cerqueira Gomes, and Pedro Miguel Freitas. The project is led by TekPrivacy, a startup of the Universidade do Porto, whose CEO is Luís Antunes.
Work commenced on 6 January, and the project is expected to be concluded in 2028, at which time the results and the developed platform will be formally presented.
CROP is funded by FEDER, through the Programa Regional do Norte – NORTE2030 (NORTE2030-FEDER-01472400).
