Course Overview
This curricular unit deepens the professional strategies and practice of mediation, consolidating the knowledge acquired in the first part of the Bootcamp. It focuses on mastering the ICFML Mediation Process, integrating the legal framework of mediation in Portugal, and developing the practical, ethical, and strategic skills required for professional mediation practice.
Main Components
- Structured Mediation Process – ICFML Model: understanding and applying each stage of the process—from preparation to closure—including facilitation techniques, emotional management, and constructive reframing.
- Legal Framework of Mediation in Portugal: analysis of the legal structure governing mediation. This component enables participants to understand the mediator’s responsibilities, the distinction between public and private mediation regimes, and the role of national certifying entities.
- Ethics and Professional Conduct: integration of the mediator’s core values and ethical duties, with emphasis on trust, neutrality, and social responsibility.
- Supervised Practice and Personalised Feedback: simulations, role-plays, and hands-on exercises based on real-life scenarios, accompanied by individual supervision.
- Mediation and Technology: introduction to the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence and digital tools in case preparation and facilitation.
- Assessment and Certification: theoretical and practical assessments (including recorded simulations) leading to the ICFML Mediator Certification – Level 1, recognised by the Portuguese Ministry of Justice and international bodies such as the IMI and CIArb.
