Learning outcomes of the curricular unit
Knowledge: This subject aims to address the current need to learn more about biomedical and biotechnological progress, so that students can ground their opinions about these issues on solid knowledge. Students should develop their skills for reflective thought and increase their interest in current issues that require thorough debate Understanding: Students are expected to improve their knowledge about new scientific topics as well as to be able to set up connections among the various concepts used in class discussions from a bioethical perspective. Analysis: Students should be able to improve the skills required to analyze and deliberate about different ethical problems. The main objective is to make them go further in the discussion of topics conveyed by the mass media, so their discussion on these topics can be based on concepts and theories. Students should be aware of the need to justify one’s opinions and to reflect in order to be able to provide good and accurate arguments.

1. Bioethics, origin and pathways, principles and fundamentals
2. Bioethics in the beginning of Life
3. Bioethics at the end of life: ethical decision making in intensive, oncological and palliative care
4. Biomedical ethics: relation between doctor and patient - autonomy and informed consent, privacy and confidentiality
5. Ethical issues in the future of work
