Program Description

This specialisation within the Master’s Degree in Law offers advanced training in Constitutional Law, Human Rights, Democracy and Juridical-Political Studies. It provides a solid foundation for understanding and addressing the emerging challenges faced by contemporary societies — including access to justice, the protection of fundamental rights, political parties, democracy and the rule of law, citizenship and civic participation, new technologies and their risks, political extremism, poverty and social exclusion, public policies for the promotion of human rights, sustainability, climate change, migration and refugees, multiculturalism, among others.

All topics are approached from a multilevel perspective — focusing not only on the national dimension, but also on the international (both global and regional) and European Union legal frameworks.

This area of specialisation is particularly suited to those practising or intending to pursue traditional legal professions such as the judiciary or legal practice, where knowledge of Constitutional Law and Human Rights/Fundamental Rights is absolutely essential. It is also especially relevant for jurists — and non-jurists — with diverse professional profiles who seek opportunities in non-governmental organisations, state bodies or international organisations, as well as for those aspiring to an academic career.
