Learning outcomes of the curricular unit

To briefly present the fundamental principles and rules of the legal framework applicable to electronic communications, in order to draw students' attention to the importance of the regulatory mechanisms which characterize one of the economic activities with greater influence on the day-to-day life of persons and businesses.

• Introduction to Electronic Communications Law (Law and Technology: Electronic communications and digital assets; the convergence between electronic communications, Media and Information Technology and the "Digital Single Market"; the relationship between European and national laws of electronic communications; the NRAs; Electronic Communications, Regulation and Competition: Big Data, Platforms and Digital Ecosystems)
• The European Law of Electronic Communications - The European Code of Electronic Communications (2018);
•  The Portuguese Law of Electronic Communications (The Electronic Communications Law; The framework law applicable to breaches in the electronic communications sector)
• The processing of personal data and the protection of privacy in the electronic communications sector (GDPR; Processing of personal data and the protection of privacy in the electronic communications; data retention)
