Learning outcomes of the curricular unit
Knowing and problematising the issue of volunteering, covering concepts, legislation and essential skills;
- To promote active citizenship, raising awareness of social inequalities and the role of civil society organisations;
- To develop personal and social skills necessary for voluntary action, such as self-knowledge, managing emotions, empathy and teamwork;
- To prepare students for practical experience, including integration into voluntary institutions, active participation in activities and critical reflection on the experience.

Citizenship and Volunteering
- Poverty, inequality and social exclusion and the role of civil society organisations (concepts, causes and consequences); Participation and Active Citizenship; Legal framework for volunteering in Portugal; Ethics and Volunteering
- Ethics and ethical issues in the context of volunteering; Protection and care in situations of vulnerability Skills for Action
- Personal and Social Skills such as Self-awareness; Emotion management, Time management, Resilience; Empathy, Teamwork, Critical Thinking Volunteering experience in an institution
