Program Description

This programme is taught in Portuguese.

Maritime Studies is an interdisciplinary academic field that brings together different areas of knowledge to address the development and security challenges arising from the critical and ongoing relationship between human activity and the sea.

In the current socio-economic context, it is essential to train well-rounded professionals, equipping them with management tools and the knowledge necessary to think as practitioners and act with reflection, particularly in decision-making processes concerning development and security issues related to the use of the sea.

The application of Maritime Studies across territories extends to activities within both the public and private sectors, engaging local, regional, national, and international stakeholders such as international organisations, governments, intermunicipal communities, local authorities, industries, environmental organisations, coastal communities, and national security and defence institutions. This framework facilitates the sustainable use of opportunities generated by the sea and fosters greater understanding and awareness of its importance.

This programme is designed to equip senior officials and technical staff of public administration, executives from companies connected to the maritime sector, independent professionals, and all those with an interest in maritime affairs.
