Porto Legal Clinic - CJP

Clínica Juridica do Porto - CJP

ABOUT

The Porto Legal Clinic (Clínica Jurídica do Porto) at Universidade Católica Portuguesa (CJP-UCP) is an initiative of educational innovation and social responsibility, dedicated to advancing excellence in legal education through meaningful engagement with the community and collaboration with legal professionals.

Inspired by the teaching methodologies of leading American and European universities, this project offers students the opportunity to apply their legal knowledge in real-world contexts.

According to Professor Manuel Fontaine, Director of the Porto Faculty of Law,

“This will be an opportunity for our students to engage directly with socially relevant issues, such as discrimination against vulnerable groups, immigration, and the treatment of the elderly, among many others. I am confident that this initiative will mark a milestone in Higher Education. Beyond pedagogical innovation, it is a tangible expression of the Faculty’s commitment to educating socially responsible professionals”

OBJECTIVES

The CJP aims to foster active and practice-based learning in the education of law students, equipping them with extra-legal skills while nurturing ethical values, social awareness and community engagement.

The Clinic also seeks to promote collaboration between the Faculty and third-sector organisations, NGOs, and academic institutions with shared objectives, as well as with other entities and bodies dedicated to social causes.

Within this framework, the CJP seeks to enhance knowledge transfer and embody the social responsibility of the Porto Faculty of Law, contributing actively to the community and to social progress.

The Clinic is likewise committed to fostering cooperation with legal practitioners, establishing strategic partnerships with legal entities and institutions that share its mission.
