Maria Paula Ribeiro de Faria, Full Professor at the Faculty of Law – Porto School of the Portuguese Catholic University, was elected as a judge of the Constitutional Court by the Assembly of the Republic on 12 June.

With a degree in Law from the Portuguese Catholic University, and a Master’s and PhD in Law, specialising in Criminal Law, from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra, Paula Ribeiro de Faria has been a leading figure in teaching and legal research in the fields of Criminal Law for several decades.

The swearing-in ceremony took place yesterday, 15 June, at the Belém Palace, in the presence of His Excellency the President of the Republic, António José Seguro, alongside three other new judges of the Constitutional Court: Joaquim Cardoso da Costa, former Secretary of State and current Director of the State Legal Centre; Gabriela Cunha Rodrigues, an appeal court judge and currently Chief of Staff to the President of the Supreme Court of Justice; and Luís Filipe Brites Lameiras, who was an appeal court judge at the Courts of Appeal of Lisbon and Porto.

Judges of the Constitutional Court serve a single nine-year term, commencing on the date of their inauguration.

The Faculty of Law – Porto School congratulates Professor Paula Ribeiro Faria on this distinction, which recognises her academic, scientific and civic career in the service of Law and Justice.
