Inaugural Lecture “Constitution, Politics and Law”, with Paulo Rangel, Minister of State and Foreign Affairs

We are pleased to invite you to the Inaugural Lecture “Constitution, Politics and Law”, with Paulo Rangel, Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, taking place on 13 October, at 5:00 p.m., at the Carvalho Guerra Auditorium.

At a time of profound social, technological and geopolitical change, the relationship between Constitution, Politics and Law calls for renewed reflection. The reconfiguration of spaces of power, forms of belonging and modes of civic participation challenges the classical categories of constitutionalism and the very foundations of the democratic order.

Thinking about the Constitution in the present therefore means examining it beyond its normative dimension, as an expression of a political reality in constant transformation and a space for the ongoing negotiation between power and freedom, authority and legitimacy, democracy and the rule of law.

The session “Constitution, Politics and Law” proposes a moment of reflection and debate on the transformations of contemporary constitutionalism, the enduring importance of the rule of law, and the institutional and political conditions shaping the future of democracy.

The programme will also feature an opening address by Isabel Capeloa Gil, Vice-Chancellor of the Portuguese Catholic University.

The event is open to the entire academic community, subject to prior registration.
